Commitment to responsible lending

We handle each Red Tree application with careful consideration. We have no interest in providing a loan that cannot be repaid and does not take into account your requirements and objectives. We practice reliable, responsible, and trustworthy lending — each and every time. We take careful note of each customer’s individual circumstances before we recommend a loan amount to ensure we don’t lend customers more than they can afford to repay. Doing this means we can ensure that we have responsibly catered for the needs of our customer.

Dedication to the law

By law, we’re required to make reasonable inquiries about the borrower’s requirements and objectives in relation to any credit contract recommended by us and about the borrower’s financial situation.

We must also undertake reasonable steps to verify the borrower’s financial situation, in order to make a final assessment as to whether any credit contract recommended by us is unsuitable.

We can only provide borrowers with a credit contract which we deem is not unsuitable, and this will be assessed on the basis of the borrower’s current financial situation.

In verifying a borrower’s financial situation, we may conduct a credit history check, peruse bank statements and consider other relevant information.

 

Why we want to see bank statements

One of the best ways for our team at Red Tree to assess a customers’ capacity to afford a short term loan, is to assess the amount of income a customer receives and expenditure they have, as shown on their bank statements. The easiest way to do this is to examine bank statements which provide a clear and medium-term assessment of income and expenditure, and therefore the capacity of a consumer to repay a loan.

We only provide an applicant with a credit contract when the applicant can afford to repay the loan without causing substantial hardship.
